Textured Fan Beanie Crochet Pattern

The Textured Fan Beanie is one of my very first crochet patterns!

Materials:

Caron Simply Soft (Light Worsted Weight Yarn 150 yards)

I 5.5mm Crochet Hook/J 6.00mm Crochet Hook

Yarn Needle

Stitches:

Slip Stitch (SS) – Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Pull through stitch and loop.

Chain (Ch) – Yarn over. Pull through loop.

Single Crochet (Sc) – Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.

Half Double Crochet (Hdc) – Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over.  Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 3 loops.

Double Crochet (Dc) – Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over. Draw up loop. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops. Yarn over. Pull through 2 loops.

Special Stitches:

Fphdc: Yarn over. Insert hook around the front to back and around stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through three stitches.

Bphdc: Yarn over. Insert hook around the stitch fron back to front into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through three stitches.
Make magic ring.

Instructions:

Magic Ring

Round 1: Ch 2. Hdc in the ring. Join with SS on top of first Hdc made. (8)

Round 2: Ch 1. Work 2Hdc in each stitch around. Join with SS in top of first Hdc of made. (16)

Round 3: Ch 1. *2Hdc. Hdc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (24)

Round 4: Ch 1. *2Hdc. Hdc in the next 2 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (32)

Round 5: Ch 1. *2Hdc. Hdc in the next 3 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (40)

Round 6: Ch 1. *2Hdc. Hdc in the next 4 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (48)

Round 7: Ch 3. Dc. *Skip the next 2 unworked stitches. 3Dc in the next stitch. Working backwards, make 3Dc in the 2nd skipped stitch. Skip the next unworked stitch. Make one DC in next 2 stitches.* Repeat from * to * around. With 2 stitches remaining skip 1 and Dc in last stitch.
Join with SS in top of first DC made. (8 fans)

Round 8: Ch 3. *3Dc. Working backwards make 3Dc in the last Dc from previous round. Skip next 2 unworked stitches. Make 1 Dc in next 2 stitches. Skip the next 3 unworked stitches.* Repeat from * to * all the way around. Join with SS in top of the first Dc made. (8 fans)

Round 9: SS in next 3 stitches. Ch 3. Dc. *Skip the next 3 unworked stitches. Make 3Dc in the next stitch.Working backwards Make 3Dc in the last skipped stitch. Skip the next 2 unworked stitches. Dc in the next 2 stitches* Repeat from * to * around. Dc into the second SS made in the beginning of the round. Join with SS in top of first Dc. (8 fans)

Repeat rounds 8 – 9 until the hat measures 6 inches from top. Ending with Round 8. (8 fans)

Final Round: Ch 1. Hdc in next stitch. *Sc in next 4 stitches. Hdc in next 4 stitches.* Repeat from * to * Making Hdc in the last 3 stitches. Join with a SS to the first Hdc made. (63)

If you prefer a tighter fitting band switch to a smaller hook.
Round 1: Ch 1. Hdc all the way around. Join with SS in top of first Hdc made. (63)
Round 2: Ch 1. *Fphdc. Bphdc.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with a SS the first Hdc made. (63)

Finish off. Weave in Ends.
