Materials:

Worsted Weight Yarn
I 5.5mm Crochet Hook
E 3.5mm Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle

0-3m (6-12m, 18m-4y, 5-10y, and Adult)

Stitches:

CH: Chain- Yarn over pull through one loop.

SS: Slip stitch- Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over and pull through both the stitch and loop on the hook.

DC: Double crochet- Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops.

SC: Single crochet- Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops.

HDC: Half double crochet- Yarn over. Insert hook into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through three stitches.

FPDC: Yarn over. Insert hook around the front to back and around stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops.

BPDC: Yarn over. Insert hook around the stitch fron back to front into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops.

Tr: Treble- Yarn over 2 times. Insert hook around the stitch front back to front into stitch. Yarn over pull through stitch. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops. Yarn over pull through two loops.

Puff Stitch – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook back into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook back into stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all the loops on the hook, ch 1.

 

Instructions:

With the 5.5mm hook

  1. Ch 56 [60, 70, 75, 80] Join with a sl st in the beginning chain.
  2. Ch 2, hDc into each stitch. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  3. Ch 2, “fphDc around the next stitch, bphDc around the next stitch” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  4. Ch 2, “bphDc around the next stitch, fphDc around the next stitch” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  5. Repeat rows 3&4 0[1, 1, 2, 2] times
  6. Ch 2, fphDc around the next stitch, puff stitch into the next stitch, “fphDc around the next 4 stitches, puff stitch into the next stitch” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  7. Change to second color* Ch 2, fphDc around the next fphDc, skip the puff stitch, fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, working with first color puff stitch into the space before the next stitch, working with second color fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, skip the puff stitch, fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, working with first color puff stitch into the space before the next stitch” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  8. Change to first color* Ch 2, fphDc around the next fphDc, working with third color puff stitch into the space before the next stitch,  working with first color fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, skip the puff stitch, “fphDc around the next 2 fphDc,  working with third color puff stitch into the space before the next stitch,  working with first color fphDc around the next 2 fphDc” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  9. Ch 2, fphDc around the next fphDc, skip the puff stitch, fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, puff stitch into the space before the next stitch, fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, skip the puff stitch, fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, puff stitch into the space before the next stitch” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  10.   11. Repeat rows 9&10 5[6, 7, 8, 9] times
  12. Ch 2, fphDc around the next fphDc, skip the puff stitch, fphDc2tog, puff stitch into the space before the next stitch, fphDc around the next 2 fphDc, skip the puff stitch, fphDc2tog, puff stitch into the space before the next stitch” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  13. Ch 2, fphDc around the next fphDc, puff stitch into the space before the next stitch, fphDc around the next fphDc, skip the puff stitch, “fphDc2tog, puff stitch into the space before the next stitch, fphDc around the next fphDc” Repeat “” to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  14. Ch 2, fphDc around each of the fphDc skipping all of the puff stitches. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  15. Ch 2, fphDc around each stitch. Join with a slst in the ch 2.
  16. Ch 2, fphDc3tog, fphDc2tog to the end. Join with a sl st in the ch 2.
  17. Tie off and sew the top together. (Sew around twice.)
  18. Weave in the ends.

 

Flower

With the 3.5mm hook

  1. Ch 43, 6 Dc into the 3rd chain from the hook, Chain 3. sl st into the next chain, Chain 3. 6hDc into the next chain, Chain 3. sl st into the next chain, “ch 4, 6tr into the next chain, ch 4, sl st into the next chain” Repeat “” to the end.
  2. Tie off leaving a tail for sewing.
  3. Roll the piece into a flower and sew it together with the tail of the yarn and a needle.

Leaves (Make 2)

With the 3.5mm hook

  1. Ch 11, Sc into the 2nd chain from the hook, Sc into the next 4 stitches, hDc into the next stitch, Dc into the next stitch, tr into the next stitch, Dc into the next stitch, 5 Dc into the next stitch, Dc into the next stitch, 2 hDc into the next stitch, Sc into the next 6 stitch, sl st with the beginning.
  2. Ch 1, Sc into the next 5 stitches, hDc into the next 6 stitches, 2 hDc into the next stitch, 3 hDc into the next stitch, 2 hDc into the next stitch, hDc into the next 5 stitches, Sc to the end. Join with a sl st.
  3. Sew onto the flower, then sew the flower onto the hat.
